The Hampton Roads Pee Wee AA squad continued their winning ways with a couple of lop-sided wins over the Montgomery Blue Devils this weekend. While the game tapes and score sheets clearly show the Whalers spent enough time in the penalty box to satisfy a major felony charge, they were still able to outshoot and outscore the Devils and improve their league record to 3-0-1.
On Saturday afternoon, the Whalers came into the game a little sluggish, but soon found their spark and managed to tilt the ice in their favor. Whalers Captain Nick Jones started the scoring with 5:03 left in the first on a beautiful 2-pass goal (assisted by Regen Cavanagh and Trevor Neubauer). The rest of the 1st period saw the Whalers sending players to the penalty box in non-stop, single-file fashion.
In the 2nd period Regen Cavanagh (unassisted) lit the lamp only 29 seconds into the period to put the Whalers up 2-0. Ashton Rogers (assisted by Nick Jones) scored at the13:03 mark for a 3-0 lead. Montgomery found some life with a goal at 11:55 of the second. With 8:18 remaining in the 2nd, Whaler Nick Jones scored his second goal of the game (assisted by Regen Cavanagh and John Horn) to close out the 2nd period with a 4-1 Whaler lead.
In the 3rd, Kaleb Wills stole the puck from a Devils defender and marched in unassisted to score only 11 seconds into the period. Regen Cavanagh scored his second goal of the game (assisted by Dalton Harris) to cap the Whaler victory. Montgomery was able to score with 5:03 remaining, but the Whalers skated away with a dominating 6-2 victory.

Zach Alvarado stood tall in net with 10 saves, and Britt League, called up for a developmental / back-up stint, made 5 saves in the 3rd.
Sunday's league game was no different than the day before, with the Whalers controlling play from the drop of the puck to the last whistle. Only 30 seconds into the game, Kaleb Willis deked the goalie on another nifty 2-pass goal (assisted by Ashton Rogers and Liam Walsh). With 3:49 left in the 1st, Tyler Jahn fired a puck through the 5-hole on a breakaway set-up by Matty Hanchon and John Horn to give the Whalers a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd.
The second period saw 6 separate minor penalties assessed to the Whalers. With 12 minutes of power-play time to use, the Blue Devils were still unable to score. After the referee managed to repair his whistle, Kaleb Willis found the back of the net (unassisted) with 4:35 remaining in the 2nd to put the Whalers up 3-0.
The 3rd period remained scoreless until Liam Walsh lit the lamp with only 12 seconds remaining (assisted by Jordan Byrne and Kaleb Willis) to cap the Whalers 4-0 victory.
Zach Alvarado remained stellar in net with 16 saves to earn the Shut-Out.
